"Being named the highest-rated health plan in Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. is truly a reflection of our commitment to the care experience for our patients," stated Marilyn Kawamura, President, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc. "These outstanding results are a testament to our dedication to high-quality, affordable, convenient care to Kaiser Permanente patients throughout the region."

Now in its seventh year, 'NCQA's Health Insurance Plan Rankings' are based on quality data collected, analyzed and converted to scores by the NCQA.  The three reporting categories are consumer satisfaction, prevention and treatment. The 'NCQA Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2012-2013' lists appear online at NCQA.org.

'NCQA Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2012-2013,' the most widely used performance measurement tool in health care, provides individuals, employer groups, and purchasers with the ability evaluate the quality of various health plans while considering important measures and demonstrated value, instead of basing their decision solely on cost.

"Not only did Kaiser Permanente rank the highest in the region, but we vastly outperformed all other regional competitors," said Bernadette Loftus, MD, Associate Executive Director, The Permanente Medical Group. "The combination of our award-winning physicians with our advanced technology and new full-service medical centers allows Kaiser Permanente to excel as a leader in quality and service."

Kaiser Permanente medical centers are staffed by physicians from the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group – home to many of the region's "Top Doctors". Ninety Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group physicians were recognized as "Top Doctors" in the February issue of Northern Virginia Magazine's 2012 Top Doctors list and 53 physicians were named the region's "Top Doctors" in Washingtonian Magazine's March 2012 issue.

Kaiser Permanente continues to bring its high quality care to members throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, with two more new multi-specialty facilities opening next year. Kaiser Permanente will open a new multi-specialty medical center in Baltimore County, Md., and later that year will complete an extensive expansion and renovation of its current Largo Medical Center in Prince George's County, Md. Kaiser Permanente also opened new centers in Northwest DC, Tysons Corner and Gaithersburg in 2012. This robust expansion will provide members with new locations to receive superior care and more medical services conveniently co-located within Kaiser Permanente medical centers.

This NCQA ranking comes on the heels of Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States ranked "Highest Member Satisfaction among Commercial Health Plans in the Virginia-Maryland-D.C. Region, Four Years in a Row" by J.D. Power and Associates.*
