Jon Maesner Named Chief Pharmacy Officer for CIGNA

BLOOMFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jon Maesner, PharmD, has been named CIGNA's chief pharmacy officer. Maesner will lead CIGNA's coordinated approach to integrating medication therapy with CIGNA’s medical, health and wellness programs to improve health outcomes and lower total health care and disability costs.

Maesner joined CIGNA in 1996 holding roles of increasing responsibility in his career at the company, including leading development of CIGNA's health improvement services and health care selection tools for customers.

Prior to joining CIGNA, Maesner held various positions in the managed health care and pharmaceutical industries, including Prudential HealthCare in Roseland, N.J.; Genentech, a pharmaceutical company in South San Francisco, Calif.; and Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound in Seattle. He also held an adjunct faculty appointment at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Washington.

Maesner received his bachelor of pharmacy degree from Washington State University and his doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Utah. He completed a clinical pharmacy residency at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, and a subsequent, post-doctoral specialized residency in drug information practice at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. During his tenure in San Antonio, he was a clinical instructor with the Center's Department of Pharmacology and with the College of Pharmacy of the University of Texas at Austin.
