The 2014 Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) has begun, and (NYSE: HUM), one of the nation’s leading health and well-being companies, is well prepared to help people eligible for Medicare select the coverage that is best for them.

Medicare Advantage (MA) and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) selected during the AEP will take effect Jan. 1, 2014. As in recent years, Medicare beneficiaries won’t be able to switch plans for 2014 after the enrollment period ends on Dec. 7, 2013 (unless they qualify for a special enrollment period), according to Medicare program rules.

Humana’s MA plans offer people a wide array of benefits and services while helping them get the most from their health care dollars. Plans include coverage for services such as preventive checkups, doctor visits and hospital stays. Humana’s goal is to help people better manage and understand their health, and health coverage.

Many of Humana’s MA plans also provide benefits such as:

“As one of the nation’s largest and most experienced Medicare companies, we are committed to helping our members achieve lifelong well-being,” said Tom Liston, President of Humana’s Retail Segment. “Humana Medicare members know from experience that they can trust us to provide what they need, when they need it, when it comes to their Medicare coverage.”

With prescription drug coverage, health and wellness offerings and chronic condition management programs available, Humana MA plans offer enrollees many choices, including local and regional PPO plans, HMO and private fee-for-service (PFFS) plans.

Humana MA plans also have annual out-of-pocket maximums in 2014, protecting beneficiaries against catastrophic costs.

Humana is offering a wide variety of options with its Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) that will help Medicare beneficiaries afford their prescription medications.

“Humana knows our Medicare members well, understands their prescription-drug needs well, and is proud of the outstanding service we provide,” said William Fleming, Pharm. D., President of Humana Pharmacy Solutions. “We’re enabling seniors to better afford their medications and empowering them to live healthier lives.”

Humana continues to support its Medicare members in their pursuit of better health and well-being. As part of this commitment, Humana MA members enjoy access to programs that encourage healthy behaviors.

All fitness and health club memberships for 2014 will be available through the SilverSneakers Fitness Program. SilverSneakers is one of the nation’s leading exercise programs for older adults. More than 90 percent of Humana’s MA HMO plans nationally will offer this benefit at no additional cost to MA members.

The Well Dine program, which delivers prescribed meals directly to members’ homes following a hospital stay, will be available to many Humana MA members in 2014.

“Preventive care benefits are important to our members, especially the Baby Boomers now entering the Medicare program. They know Humana can help them live healthier and productive lives,” Liston said.

Most Humana MA members will also receive the program, which includes Humana Active Outlook magazine, access to health and wellness classes, and interactive webinars.

In 2014, Humana is offering its PDP in all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. MA plans are available across much of the U.S. as well. Below is an overview of the various plan options Humana is offering for 2014:
