  • For the fourth consecutive year, CIGNA is the top-ranked plan in the state*
  • Ratings based on customer service, quality care and accreditation scores

BLOOMFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CIGNA HealthCare of North Carolina has been ranked as the “top rated” health plan in North Carolina, according to NCQA's Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2010-2011 - Private.

The rankings are based on the NCQA's measurement of a health plan's performance in three categories: improving health care quality, providing responsive customer service and achieving high scores on NCQA accreditation surveys.

"We are honored to be consistently recognized as a top plan by NCQA for the quality of care and service that we provide to our customers,” said Charles Pitts, president, CIGNA HealthCare of North Carolina. “Rankings such as NCQA’s are important because they show areas in which we are meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers, as well as opportunities to continue to improve.”

The rankings of HMO and Point of Service plans are based on the voluntary submission of health care quality results as measured through HEDIS® (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) and customer service scores based on member surveys through CAHPS® (Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems). Scores from NCQA accreditation surveys are also included. About 227 private health plans are listed in the rankings. More information on the rankings is available at www.ncqa.org
