CIGNA Names Mark Boxer Chief Information Officer

BLOOMFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- David M. Cordani, president and chief executive officer of CIGNA (NYSE:CI), today named Mark Boxer to the position of Chief Information Officer. In this position, Mark will lead CIGNA's global technology strategy. Boxer succeeds Philip Emond, who is retiring from the company.

“Technology is a key enabler of our go deep, go individual, and go global growth strategy,” Cordani said. “By providing our customers, clients, health care professionals, and other stakeholders with the best-in-class systems they need, we empower them to make more informed and efficient health care decisions. Mark is ideally suited to drive the execution of our technology strategy to best serve our customers and help them live healthier lives.”

Boxer is a seasoned IT professional with significant technology experience in the health care sector. Most recently, he was the Group President, Government Health Care for ACS/Xerox and Global Deputy Chief Information Officer for Xerox Corporation. He also has served as the Chief Information Officer at WellPoint, and in a variety of other IT executive roles.

Boxer is now returning to CIGNA, where he formerly led CIGNA's eCommerce practice and played a major IT leadership role during CIGNA's Healthsource acquisition and integration.

Mark will work side-by-side with Phil Emond during a transition period that will extend until summer, 2011.

“Phil Emond has been instrumental in improving service quality within IT and implementing the company’s multi-year technology strategy, both of which have strengthened our company’s capabilities and marketplace position,” Cordani said. “I appreciate the guidance and leadership he has provided, both within IT and within the broader CIGNA organization.”

Mark Boxer will begin his service at CIGNA on April 25, 2011.
