Cigna exec takes job at Walgreens

Insurers shouldn't underestimate Walgreens' desire to compete within the industry based on a recent high-profile hiring of Cigna's chief medical officer, Jeffrey Kang, for the newly-created position of vice president of health and wellness services and solutions, reports the Hartfod Courant. "With his extensive background in healthcare, Jeff has the breadth of experience and strategic insight to lead our health and wellness businesses, building a dynamic organization that helps us meet customers' needs for access to quality, affordable healthcare," said Kermit Crawford, president of Walgreen's Pharmacy, Health and Wellness. During his time with Cigna, Kang was responsible for health strategy and policy for the insurer's medical, pharmacy, and behavioral products. He also led Cigna's pay-for-performance programs, patient-centered medical home and accountable care organizations. Article
