Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGa), the state’s largest health benefits company with more than 75 years of serving Georgia, is adding more than 750 jobs at its Atlanta and Columbus locations to support State Health Benefit Plan members. Beginning Jan. 1, 2014, BCBSGa will be providing Third Party Administrative (TPA) services and Medical Management to the State Health Benefit Plan which covers approximately 650,000 Georgians, including the State Employees Plan, the Teachers Plan, the Public School Employees Plan and Medicare Advantage plans for retirees.

"We are honored to serve the Georgia State Health Benefit Plan membership," said Morgan Kendrick, president, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia. "As a result, we are adding more than 750 new jobs here in Georgia. These are meaningful jobs with solid benefits that are putting people back to work and will lead to a stronger Blue Cross and Blue Shield and a healthier State of Georgia employee.”

In selecting BCBSGa, the Department of Community Health ensured that SHBP members will have options of coverage, as well as a wide selection of doctors and hospitals throughout Georgia. In addition, BCBSGa will work with members on improving their health outcomes while at the same time, saving the state on the amount it spends each year on health care.

"In this time of economic recovery, it is especially exciting to see local companies like Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia adding new jobs," Georgia Governor Nathan Deal said. "These important jobs will provide a meaningful boost to our local economy. We applaud Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia for serving their new State Health Benefit Plan customers with fellow Georgians."

BCBSGa currently employs almost 3,000 employees across the state. The new positions will be located in Atlanta and Columbus, where the company already has a large presence. The new jobs will include medical professionals and entry level and managerial positions in the areas of customer service, training and other operational functions. These employees will provide service to the State Health Benefit Plan members in a valuable, trusted and caring way. 400 of these positions will be located in Columbus. Earlier this year BCBSGa announced 200 new positions as part of the Healthcare Exchange.
