Blue Shield of California disputes Sutter Health's rates

Blue Shield of California and Sutter Health, which runs 23 hospitals in Northern California, are butting heads. The insurer claims the hospital chain is trying to conceal some of its business practices, reports the Los Angeles Times. As a result of the dispute, the two sides have been unable to agree to a new contract; their previous one expired Dec. 31. Blue Shield also pointed out that Sutter's prices are up to 30 percent higher than other hospitals. BSCA regulators notified some 280,000 members that they may lose network coverage with Sutter doctors and hospitals. Article
