BCBS Louisiana changing how doctors care for chronically ill patients

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana has introduced a program that intends to improve care for individuals with chronic conditions, save those members money and transform the way doctors care for these patients, reported The Advocate. The Quality Blue care program counts 450 doctors and 140,000 members among its participants. Blue Cross helps doctors follow best practices in taking care of patients while helping patients made regular doctor visits and stick to their treatment plans. The ultimate goal is to reduce hospitalizations and other expensive complications associated with conditions such as kidney disease, high blood pressure, which are prevalent in Louisiana's adult population. Since nearly 90 percent of Louisiana's doctors are in Blue Cross networks, the payer hopes Quality Blue will have a ripple effect throughout the state. Article
