AmeriHealth NJ today announced that the company has renewed its contract with Cardiovascular Associates of Delaware Valley (The Heart House), which includes a new risk-based quality program.

The Heart House is a group of board-certified cardiologists providing comprehensive cardiovascular care. With offices throughout Southern New Jersey, and affiliations with nine hospitals, they offer a full complement of services in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.

As part of the risk-based quality program, metrics have been established in the renewed contract and will be used as criteria in measuring the cost and quality of care provided by The Heart House to AmeriHealth NJ members. The metrics include medication compliance, frequency of cardiac imaging and hospitalization rates including admissions, readmissions and emergency room visits.

“We are proud to partner with The Heart House on this new program,” said Michael Ruiz de Somocurcio, vice president of contracting and reimbursement for AmeriHealth New Jersey. “This is a unique agreement that is truly risk-based as The Heart House has agreed to tie part of their reimbursement to performance, which will be measured by the metrics we have established.”

“The Heart House has always been at the cutting edge of delivering the highest quality cardiac services to our patients,” said Dr. Sanford Gips, managing partner for The Heart House. “This partnership with AmeriHealth New Jersey will allow us to continue advancing our mission of improving and maintaining the health and well-being of our patients and their families.”

The new agreement between AmeriHealth NJ and The Heart House is a three-year contract.

This is the third quality program that AmeriHealth NJ has initiated through partnerships with providers in the past two months. “We are committed to working with our partners to transform the way health care is delivered in the State of New Jersey,” said Ruiz de Somocurcio.
