AmeriChoice Public Sector Health Plan in Tennessee Is Now UnitedHealthcare Community Plan

Name change to help UnitedHealthcare strengthen its care provider networks and enhance member service

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- AmeriChoice by UnitedHealthcare, serving 580,000 health plan members in Tennessee, has changed its name to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan.

The name change, effective Jan. 1, unifies AmeriChoice with other Medicaid health plans under the UnitedHealthcare banner. By aligning its health benefit companies under a common brand, UnitedHealthcare looks to continue to strengthen its care provider networks and improve service to its members.

“We are building on the UnitedHealthcare brand and its recognition in the marketplace to make health care simpler and more effective for all those we serve, especially our members and the state of Tennessee,” said Scott Bowers, president, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Tennessee. “The change to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan allows us to speak with one voice to our members, care providers, employers and other constituents.”

Over the next 12 months the company, which will continue to be based in Tennessee, will complete its transition to the new name. UnitedHealthcare Community Plan has notified TennCare, health care providers and members of the change and will issue new identification cards in March. The change will not affect current relationships with the network of physicians and other providers who participate in the health plan.

“Members and care providers can count on us to provide access to the same high-quality services in 2011 and beyond,” added Bowers. “We will continue our tradition of developing innovative health care solutions while coordinating the compassionate care our members deserve.”

Members may contact the health plan by using the number on their ID card or by calling (800) 690-1606. A new UnitedHealthcare Community Plan Web site now provides enhanced member and care provider portals for TennCare plans. The new site can be found at the same location as the former site – www.UHCCommunityPlan.com.
