Aetna submits 2016 ACA rates to regulators, tentatively

Aetna Inc. is submitting individual insurance rates for 2016 to state regulators, but told them rates may need to be reexamined after the Supreme Court issues its ruling on the legality of federal subsidies, Reuters reported. The Court is expected to reach a decision by June on whether tax credits are available only in states that set up their own insurance marketplaces and not in those that use Healthcare.gov. The proposed rates submitted by Aetna are based on the assumption that subsidies will stand, according to Chief Financial Officer Shawn Guertin. Even if the Supreme Court rules against the federal government, new laws or administrative rules may be able to keep them in place. "If that doesn't happen, then we would need to revisit our rates, and most of the regulators clearly understand that," Guertin said. Article
