Aetna and Concentra Open New Wellness Works Center in Phoenix

ADDISON, Texas & HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aetna (NYSE:AET) and Concentra today announced the opening of the new Aetna Health ConnectionsSM Direct2YouSM Wellness Works Center for Aetna employees in Phoenix. The new Wellness Works Center offers a comprehensive range of health and wellness services, as well as acute care services provided by Concentra, directly to employees at the workplace. Available to employers nationwide, the Aetna Health Connections Direct2YouSM product suite offers a range of services within the workplace.

At the Phoenix center, Aetna employees will have the convenience of on-site acute care services from Concentra medical professionals who can also provide confidential treatment for common non-occupational illnesses as well as vaccinations, lab services, and other urgent medical care. The Wellness Works Center also offers personal health and wellness coaching, nutritional counseling, chair massage, and a fitness center with exercise classes and personal trainers. The state-of-the-art center helps improve employee access to quality health and wellness services, and offers support for employees to achieve optimal health and financial well-being.

"As an employer focused on improving the health and well-being of our employees, we are extremely pleased to open the Wellness Works Center to provide Phoenix-area employees with the convenience of seeing a nurse or other health care professional at their workplace,” said Steve Doyle, senior vice president of Emerging Businesses and Strategic Initiatives at Aetna. “Aetna employees have served as the testing ground for many new programs we ultimately introduce to our customers and we look forward to receiving feedback and continually enhancing the services that are offered at the Phoenix center. Our goal is to not only improve the center for Aetna employees but to also improve the product we make available to our customers.”

The Wellness Works Center is open weekdays, with Concentra acute care services provided by a nurse practitioner and medical assistant. More than 1,300 Aetna employees will have access to the center.

Workplace health programs provide significant results for both employers and employees. Numerous studies conclude that implementation of workplace health programs help improve access to care and health program enrollment. As the health of the employee population improves, absenteeism decreases and productivity increases. According to the 2005 Chapman study,1 programs like Aetna’s Direct2You worksite health and wellness program, coupled with Concentra medical providers may yield an ROI of $5-$6 per every $1 an employer invests into the program.

“We are pleased to provide skillful, experienced health care services to Aetna employees directly, where and when they need them,” said Mike McCollum, senior vice president of Concentra Health Solutions. “The addition of Concentra’s expertise in acute care services furthers Aetna’s Direct2You program delivery to provide effective wellness solutions to employees in a high-quality and consistent manner, and is perfectly aligned with our mission of improving America’s health, one patient at a time.”
