9 insurers join alternative Medicaid plan in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett (R) announced on Friday that nine insurance companies met qualifications for his Medicaid expansion alternative proposal, known as the "Healthy Pennsylvania" plan, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer. The companies that met the bid requirements include UnitedHealthcare, Aetna and Vista. Corbett hopes the insurers will provide coverage to as many as 600,000 low-income people by early 2015. The alternative plan follow's Pennsylvania's rejection of the traditional Medicaid expansion, which Corbett claimed was too expensive in the long run. The Corbett administration is continuing to negotiate with the insurers and it's optimistic with the progress thus far. Article
