Study: MDs slow to leverage EMRs

While EMRs are hot, it's not surprising that medical practices are adopting them slowly, particularly given their cost and complexity. But given the investment involved, it is surprising how little use practices are getting out of their EMR investment. According to new research from Institute for Health Policy at Massachusetts General Hospital funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, about one quarter of medical practices have implemented an EMR. However, only one in ten are making effective use of the technology, merging patient data collection with test records, medical order information and decision support, researchers found.
