Nonprofit problem-solving organization the X PRIZE Foundation and wireless telecommunications research and development company Qualcomm are looking to the past for ideas about the future of healthcare. The foundation announced this past week its "Tricorder X PRIZE" competition, in which it is asking a team of developers to create a mobile device with the ability to "diagnose patients better than or equal to a panel of board certified physicians." The basis of its theme? The original Star Trek television series. Perhaps their motto should be 'We really do want you to live long and prosper.' Announcement
