Why med schools are creating their own clinical apps

Safety concerns and specific needs are just two out of a handful of reasons medical schools are increasingly developing their own clinical apps, according to a recent blog post by health technology consultant David Lee Scher, M.D. While certification programs for medical apps are in the works (efforts by Happtique and Johns Hopkins Medical School come to mind), those programs still are fairly green, meaning clinicians can't fully ensure the reliability of apps they might plan on using quite yet. What's more, many clinicians develop apps based on precise issues that apply only to their institutions, Scher says. "This not only addresses concerns in the development process along the whole cycle, but adds to the probability of adoption success," Scher says. Post
