Report: 100M mHealth monitoring wearables will ship by 2020

Nearly 100 million wearable monitoring devices will ship over the next five years spurred by consumer interest and increasing awareness of how mHealth can boost healthcare-related activities and patient treatment, according to a new ABI Research report.

Greater adoption is also being driven by the ability to collect healthcare data using a variety of devices and share data with doctors, providers, payers and care givers, states the report, "The Remote Patient Management Revolution: Wearable Devices and Open Management Platforms."

"Data has traditionally resided in silos belonging to specific applications delivered primarily by device vendors themselves. New cloud platforms capable of collecting data from a range of vendor devices and sharing it securely with a range of related parties including patients, healthcare providers, and payers will drive adoption and bring more connected devices to market," Jonathan Collins, ABI principal analyst, says in an announcement on the report.  Announcement
