The Initiative for Open AuTHentication (OATH) is hoping to get some public traction for its authentication/security vendor members with new certification program for security and authentication systems. OATH officials announced the new program this week, and named a dozen vendors who have already qualified.
Through the new OATH Certification Compliance Plan (OCCP), OATH tests vendors' products, such as authentication tokens, smart cards, and secured servers, and certifies that they are not only un-hackable, but also that they are interoperable on multiple systems or networks.
OATH officials indicate they're hoping certification will also help the public better understand and trust OATH vendors' security claims, reduce instances of identity theft, and possibly even increase online revenues as more consumers trust the online experience enough to purchase goods electronically.
Today's winners are: ActivIdentity, AuthenTec, Diversinet, DS3, Giesecke & Devrient, i-Sprint, Mi-token, NagraID, SafeNet, Symantec, Totaltexto, Technology Nexus, Vasco, and Verisec.
Diversinet, in particular, took advantage of the OATH announcement to say that it has added 50 new features to its primary MobiSecure mobile health platform, including new provider and patient web portals and a secure address book for mobile clients. It also noted that its security platform now supports 70 more smartphone and tablet devices from Apple iOS, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile.
