SynerMed Achieves Four-Star Elite Status on the Annual CAPG Standards of Excellence Assessment for the Second Year in a Ro

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- SynerMed, Inc., the leading government programs-focused managed services organization (MSO) in the country, today announced the achievement of Four-Star Elite status on the fifth annual 2011 Standards of Excellence (SOE) assessment administered by the California Association of Physician Groups (CAPG) - the nation’s largest professional association representing physicians practicing in the managed care model.

The SOE survey is the first-known voluntary, large scale, critical self-assessment for medical groups in the United States. The assessment is designed to examine and report the key features and capabilities of accountable healthcare organizations, including improved technical quality, responsive patient experience, and affordability. This year’s survey also featured more stringent documentation requirements, increased transparency and third-party validation of the scoring.

Of 76 participating medical groups caring for more than 11 million Californians, 25 organizations - some with multiple subsidiary groups - serving a population of almost 10 million people, qualified for Four Stars Elite status in 2011.

“By organizing and connecting industry stakeholders, enabling physicians to successfully achieve Meaningful Use and offering secure, compliant interoperability, SynerMed creates a health delivery system that rewards accountability and exceptional patient outcomes. This model ensures that our physicians remain ahead of reform implementation and continue to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry,” said James P. Mason, CEO of SynerMed, Inc. “The CAPG SOE affirms that our clients are excelling in the crucial areas that will be measured by reform initiatives. We are delighted to represent our physician groups in the achievement of Four-Star Elite status for the second year in a row.”

SynerMed’s medical groups - Angeles IPA, Community Family Care, EHS Medical Group, Inland Valleys IPA, Mid County Physicians Medical Group, Multi-Cultural Primary Care Medical Group, Pacific Alliance Medical Group and Southern California Children’s Network - provide care to approximately 550,000 patients in the state of California.

About the Standards of Excellence Survey

CAPG conducts its Standards of Excellence survey annually among its 150 member physician groups to gain an understanding of their “infrastructure” and to offer metrics to measure progress in clinical quality, affordability, access, technology, public accountability, and individual responsiveness to their patients. In 2011, a fifth area, Fiscal and Administrative Capability, was tested (scores not reported) to monitor the complex infrastructure needed to manage multiple revenue streams, create novel payment methodologies, maintain intricate network relationships, and handle intricate contractual relationships that are all pertinent to the challenge of creating Accountable Care Organizations nationwide.
