Stanford to hold free day of ultrasound instruction

Stanford University School of Medicine will host ULTRAfest Oct 18.--a full day of free ultrasound instruction open to any medical student in the county. Last year more than 300 students participated in the event.

According to Laleh Gharahaghian, M.D., a clinical associate professor of medicine and director of Stanford hospital's emergency department, the goal of ULTRAfest is to show how ultrasound can enhance a medical student's knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology and advance patient care.

"We use it for everything from head to toe and skin and organs," said Gharahaghian, who co-chaired the event. "It's become an essential tool at the bedside we apply to immediately rule out--or rule in--medical conditions." Article
