Petition calls for DoD to adopt VistA

A petition was created last week calling on the U.S. Department of Defense to adopt the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), the electronic health record used by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The petition--posted to the "We the People" section  of the White House's website--was created following the VA's proposal to the DoD's Request for Information for an EHR to replace existing DoD EHRs.

Both the VA and the DoD have come under fire recently for their decision to abandon creation of an integrated EHR from scratch.  The decision to abandon the project and instead develop a system from existing parts was deemed by some to be a massive failure. View the petition
