Mostashari: Interoperability on the horizon

National Coordinator for Health IT Farzad Mostashari (pictured), testifying before a subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Thursday, reassured members of congress that interoperability in healthcare is on the horizon, according to an mHIMSS post. When asked by Rep. Michael Burgess, M.D. (R-Texas) why "hospital systems in the same city … aren't talking to each other" and why he can't just "make that happen" as head of the ONC, Mostashari replied that the government is doing everything it can to increase sharing while trying not to be the only voice in the process.

"We don't want to be the ones to say, 'We'll choose the standards,'" he said. "We want to really work with the industry to get consensus and to accelerate this."

Mostashari said that as interoperability drives more change in healthcare, the mHealth landscape will mature. Article
