Medical Industry Increases Security and Productivity with Integrated Solution from Leostream and Ensure Technologies

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure with Leostream Connection Broker and XyLoc Proximity Card Authentication Provides Secure Hands-Free, Single Sign-On Access to Desktop for Doctors and Hospital Workers, Increasing Productivity and Simplifying HIPAA Compliance.

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Leostream Corporation, a leading developer of virtual hosted desktop software, and Ensure Technologies, an innovator of intelligent security solutions, today announced a joint solution that provides secure, hands-free single sign-on for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) deployments. The solution allows doctors to access their desktops while roaming freely throughout the medical facility without concerns for the integrity of the data on their desktop.

The joint solution integrates the Leostream Connect client for signing into the Leostream Connection Broker with the XyLoc proximity card authentication system by Ensure Technologies. Using the integrated solution, medical staff members with a XyLoc proximity card simply approach a thin client and are automatically logged into the Leostream Connection Broker, which then instantly identifies the user and connects them to the correct desktop using single sign-on. From an end-user perspective, they walk up to a client device and their desktop greets them.

In addition to improving the usability of VDI, the joint solution allows organizations in the healthcare industry to ensure that patient information remains confidential. When staff members step away from their client device, the integrated XyLoc and Leostream client software automatically locks the user’s desktop to protect any displayed information. If the staff member returns to their client device, the integrated client software automatically unlocks the user’s desktop so they may seamlessly and instantly return to work.

The integrated Leostream and XyLoc client software further ensures that the user’s session remains secure by automatically disconnecting the user’s session when a new staff member approaches the client device. By disconnecting the session, the original user retains their work while guaranteeing that no data or applications are ever visible to other users. As the new staff member approaches, they are automatically logged into their Leostream Connection Broker assigned desktop with no knowledge of the previous user’s session.

“Our team has been deploying the joint Leostream and Ensure Technologies solution to over 2000 medical staff members in a large health care organization,” says Josh Gervey, managing consultant at CompuCom, the leading IT outsourcing specialist. “The teams at Leostream and Ensure have created a superb integration that has simplified our job of managing the environment and allowed us to more fully focus on increasing the deployment scope. The HIPAA-compliant nature of this solution is an easy and essential win for health care organizations, and the intelligently transparent access to the virtualized desktop infrastructure decreases complexity while increasing security and productivity for the medical staff.”

“Enterprise-wide and -worthy VDI is not just about putting desktops in the datacenter. For VDI to truly succeed in an enterprise, particularly in the medical field, it must provide flexibility and end-user experience beyond what an everyday desktop provides,” said Michael Palin, CEO of Leostream. “Our partnership with Ensure Technologies continues our practice of allowing enterprises to choose, combine, and grow technologies that satisfy their business goals and end-user requirements.”

“VDI is becoming increasingly important in several markets as a method of lowering overall computing system infrastructure costs,” said John Dunlap, CEO of Ensure Technologies. “Healthcare is a key market for VDI as deployment of EMR software becomes more widespread. By integrating Ensure Technologies’ XyLoc products with Leostream, customers now have a fast, secure means of authentication, restoring their desktop and launching their applications, with built-in walk-away security. We are very pleased to be working with Leostream to offer customers this powerful solution.”
