To enhance the exchange of ideas and business improvements for health information exchanges, 20 HIEs have formed the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC).
The collaborative is the product of eight years of work among HIEs across the country, according to an article at HIT Consultant. An executive director of the group will be chosen in early 2015.
The formation of the consortium shows how much HIEs throughout the U.S. have grown and matured, according to group chairman Dick Thompson. Some of the services the group can provide, Thompson says, include "achieving economies of scale, promoting business models for the sustainability of HIEs, educating and increasing awareness of HIEs ... and collaborating to inform legislators and policy makers of the benefits to the communities served by our members."
