HealthEdge Technology Selected by WEA Trust to Automate and Streamline the Company’s Business

Number one health plan in Wisconsin expects to achieve $100 million in cost savings through the use of HealthRules Software Platform

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- HealthEdge®, provider of the only modern, enterprise-class software platform for healthcare payors, today announced that the WEA Trust, a Wisconsin-based not-for-profit group health insurance company, selected its HealthRules® software platform to automate and streamline their business, while eliminating costly manual processes. The Trust’s use of HealthRules will allow them to achieve approximately $100 million in overall cost savings over the next five years, while addressing emerging healthcare business models.

HealthRules includes next-generation claims and benefit administration, business intelligence, and portal solutions designed to help transform today’s payor organizations into tomorrow’s healthcare leaders. As testament to how closely HealthEdge and the Trust are aligned, the companies were able to move from vendor selection to contract signing in only two-and-a-half weeks, a process that usually takes several months.

“HealthRules will enable us to continue to have exceptionally low administrative costs and incorporate a number of exciting new options into our offerings, which will benefit our customers,” said Mark Blumenfeld, CIO/vice president of Information Technology for the Trust. “Our use of HealthRules will allow us to meet all of our next-generation healthcare business goals.”

The WEA Trust is Wisconsin’s second largest group health insurer and offers health, dental, life, long-term disability, short-term disability, and long-term care insurance plans to Wisconsin public school employees and local units of government, as well as individual offerings to state health plan members. Founded in 1970, the WEA Trust health plan for school districts received the top rating in Wisconsin in 2008, 2009, and 2010, according to an independent national survey (Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or CAHPS®).

“The WEA Trust is an organization that is committed to delivering a new generation of products and services to the public employees in Wisconsin,” said HealthEdge CEO Rob Gillette. “Their choice of HealthRules will enable them to adjust to market changes and gain a competitive edge in the new healthcare economy.”
