Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc., which delivers innovative software and business services solutions for ambulatory care providers through its PrimeSUITE® platform, today will be among the advanced technology innovators recognized at the 2012 Consumer Health IT Summit in Washington, DC for improving consumer access to their health data and fostering greater direct involvement in their own health.

Greenway® was invited to participate in the event by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, organizer of the Consumer Health IT Summit. This year’s summit features “examples of trailblazing companies that are enabling widespread consumer access to health information.”

In particular, the summit is focusing on how innovators are accelerating the ability for consumers to view, download and transmit their health information, an important aspect of Stage 2 electronic health record (EHR) meaningful use requirements.

The Blue Button, originally developed by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, plays an important role in advancing healthcare consumer data access and engagement. It is becoming a universal symbol for consumers that they can get electronic access to their health data on demand, empowering them to play a more active role in their own health. The Blue Button Initiative is designed to encourage commercial EHR developers as well as hospitals and other healthcare providers to implement the convenient service.

At today’s summit, Greenway’s achievement to implement Blue Button capabilities in the latest version of its patient engagement solution will be recognized. The integration is complete and is slated to be released late this fall to Greenway customers. The solution will not only deliver basic Blue Button data readability capabilities, but go a step beyond and enable consumers to easily receive a continuity of care document (CCD) version of their record if they need discrete data to add to their patient health record (PHR).

“We’re proud to help break down the information barriers that are preventing providers, consumers and payers from working together to cost-effectively improve population health,” stated Greenway President and Chief Executive Officer Tee Green. “We’re committed to making healthcare data more accessible, sharable and impactful, advancing the patient-provider connection and empowering patients as true, engaged consumers and partners in their healthcare.”

While attendance at the Consumer Health IT Summit has reached capacity, you can view live streaming video of the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern .
