Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc. continues its industry leadership role in fostering interoperability and data liquidity to improve care coordination and outcomes by becoming the first ambulatory HIT solutions provider to join Healtheway, Inc. and support the national eHealth Exchange. Healtheway is a public-private collaborative that promotes health information interoperability to improve patient care, streamline disability benefit claims and enhance public health reporting.

The move by Greenway® is the latest example of the company’s market leadership and innovation. Greenway PrimeSUITE® was the first ambulatory electronic health record to be by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) under ONC 2014 Edition criteria and the first to be gold certified for under the Cerner Interoperability Certification Program. Greenway was the first company to announce successful data sharing between its solution at a customer practice and ’ solution at an area hospital system, improving community care coordination. And earlier this year, Greenway was a founding member of the , a multi-vendor, non-profit association committed to fostering national standards and processes for secure data sharing.

Greenway was also recognized in September 2012 as a “trailblazing company” by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology for its effectiveness in improving consumers’ access to their health data and fostering greater direct involvement in their own health.

“Greenway’s early-adopter work in standards-based exchange and its organizational collaborations are well-known in the industry,” said Healtheway Executive Director Mariann Yeager. “We welcome Greenway’s real-world experience and expertise as a vital addition to our expanding reach and success.”

Healtheway also partners with the Care Connectivity Consortium (CCC) and the EHR/HIE Interoperability Workgroup, of which Greenway is a founding member.

The eHealth Exchange evolved from the Office of the National Coordinator of HIT’s original Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN) program initiative that demonstrated early exchange efforts among federal agencies, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Administration, Department of Defense, Social Security Administration, and the Veterans Health Administration, with private sector organizations. Since 2009, the eHealth Exchange has grown dramatically, interconnecting health systems, academic medical centers regional and state health information exchange organizations and federal agencies. As the eHealth Exchange community grew, Healtheway extended its programs to broader industry engagement, with founding members such as the American Medical Association (AMA), Kaiser Permanente and the Workgroup for Electronic Data Exchange (WEDI).

With Healtheway’s support, the eHealth Exchange community has expanded to include more than 40 participants representing more than 800 hospitals, 7,000 medical groups as well as more than 800 dialysis centers and 800 retail pharmacies across the U.S. Today, the eHealth Exchange community is exchanging information for more than 70 million patients.

As a successful connectivity network, the eHealth Exchange was recognized within the meaningful use Stage 2 Final Rule transitions of care measure as a fulfillment option for eligible professionals exchanging patient data, “where the recipient receives the summary of care record via exchange facilitated by an organization that is an eHealth Exchange participant.” The Final Rule also allows transmission via Direct Secure Messaging, to which Greenway’s PrimeSUITE solution is already certified as part of its Complete Stage 2 certification.

“Greenway has championed interoperability for years as a key requirement for advanced care coordination and improved population health,” said Greenway President and Chief Executive Officer Tee Green. “In joining Healtheway and supporting the national eHealth Exchange, we’ll contribute to this very important movement while expanding our customers’ interoperability options and ability to excel at care coordination. We encourage other HIT solution providers to actively participate as well.”

Healtheway is a non-profit organization chartered to operationally support the eHealth Exchange, a rapidly growing community of exchange partners who securely share information under a common trust framework and a common set of rules. Currently, 40 participants include four federal agencies, six states, and more than two dozen health information organizations (HIOs) and health systems, representing hundreds of hospitals, thousands of providers and millions of patients. Healtheway collaborates across the healthcare industry to develop implementation strategies that enable secure, interoperable nationwide exchange of health information.
