For the first time, Google has agreed to sign HIPAA's business associate agreement for Google Apps, TechRepublic reported. The agreement reached last month covers three Google Apps services--Gmail, Calendar and Drive--as well as the Google Apps Vault service, which enables archiving information from the other three apps.The announcement comes a little more than two months after FierceHealthIT reported that information for more than 3,000 patients at Oregon Health & Science University was put at risk when medical residents used Google Drive and Gmail to maintain a spreadsheet for academic purposes.
