Falcon EHR Receives ‘Meaningful Use’ Certification

Physicians can receive up to $44,000 in Medicare incentives for Falcon EHR use

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- DaVita Inc.’s Falcon, LLC. announced today that Falcon EHRTM has received the federal government’s “Meaningful Use” stamp of approval by earning “Complete EHR Ambulatory” certification. The designation officially deems the electronic health record (EHR) application capable of enabling eligible providers to qualify for Meaningful Use incentive payments under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“We are very proud of this accomplishment. In addition to providing a nephrology-focused EHR to physicians, we can now add that it is government certified,” said Anthony Gabriel, MD, chief information officer of DaVita®. “This is a significant milestone, but we see it as a jumping off point for Falcon EHR to continue to add features and functionality to support the distinct needs of nephrologists and their practices.”

Tested and certified under the Drummond Group's Electronic Health Records Office of the National Coordinator Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB) program, the EHR application is 2011/2012 compliant in accordance with the applicable criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

As a hosted, web-based electronic health record system, Falcon EHR offers nephrologists access from any computer, whenever and wherever they have Internet connectivity. Falcon EHR is committed to helping its physicians understand how to use the system to attest to Meaningful Use. In the first payment year of Stage 1, physicians are required to attest to using a certified EHR for 90 continuous days to qualify for the maximum incentive. Current Falcon EHR users can begin logging their 90 days of Meaningful Use soon.

“This is an exciting time for Falcon EHR and its customers,” said Gabriel. “Our focus has been and will remain on the needs of our customers and how we can help them improve their practice and patient outcomes.”

The interconnectivity promoted by Falcon EHR, including integration with DaVita’s dialysis center systems, laboratory system as well as other industry laboratory and practice management applications, is designed to connect physicians across points of care. Together with Meaningful Use certification, this interconnectivity demonstrates Falcon EHR’s commitment to meeting the overarching healthcare IT goals envisioned by the government to positively impacting patient care.
