Employee gains access to EMRs at Memorial Hermann Health System

A former clinical employee at Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston accessed patient electronic medical records, according to an announcement by the organization. The employee accessed the information outside of his or her normal job duties from December 2007 to July 2014.

After an investigation, Memorial Hermann found that the employee accessed patient information including names, dates of birth, addresses, medical record numbers, health insurance information and, in some circumstances, Social Security numbers.

The incident did not involve all Memorial Hermann patients, only certain patients during the specified timeframe, according to the organization.
