DSS, Inc. Launches New vxVistA Extension Hub to Support the Department of Veterans Affairs Open Source VistA Application

New website helps ease the transition to open source software for VistA and vxVistA extension users

JUNO BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- DSS, Inc., the leading provider of software development and support of VistA, today announced the launch of their newly redesigned vxVistA.org website intended to serve as a collaboration hub for all VistA users within a hospital or health network, including clinical and administrative staff, new adopters, C-suite executives and developers.

“The vxVista.org extension hub incorporates a variety of online features for aiding the adoption, implementation and enhancement of the VistA system,” said Fabian Lopez, project manager and conceptual designer of the website. “Through the website, users can interact with and learn from one another as they work to find the best solutions for problems they face during the transition.”

The new hub supports the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) recent transition to an open source VistA system and provides a platform to:

  • Find compatible modules, or extensions, that enhance VistA in the VistA Extensions Hub;
  • Engage in dialogues with other users and developers by visiting the VistA Exchange Center; and
  • Participate in weekly webinars with experts who will share their knowledge in a variety of areas including software development, implementation and support.

VistA extensions, a strong focus for the site, can encompass a wide range of add-on VistA applications for supplementary administrative and clinical functionalities, including behavioral health, radiology, oncology and dentistry.

The new website also supports the efforts of the Open Source Electronic Health Record Agent (OSEHRA), a not-for-profit foundation facilitating electronic health record (EHR) improvements through open source development, by encouraging additional conversations and partnerships between the VA and the open source community.

“We are energized by the launch of our new VistA extension hub and look forward to working alongside OSEHRA as a liaison between the VA and VistA users,” said Mark Byers, CEO and president of DSS. “While OSEHRA provides a collaboration community around VistA, our site addresses the need for an environment in which end users can collaborate on extensions and search for non-technical help.”
