Covisint to Help NEPA HIE Physicians Provide Better Care, While Also Benefiting Payers and Patients

Covisint, a Compuware company, recently announced that it has won new business from Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Information Exchange (NEPA HIE) by enabling the first non-provider-based HIE in Pennsylvania with clinical messaging support. Now, with Covisint ExchangeLink, NEPA HIE physicians will receive the clinical and administrative information they need at the point of care, securely and efficiently.

"We have multiple stakeholders that all will benefit from the uniquely better care coordination that the Covisint platform enables," said Wayne Thompson, Associate Dean for Technology, The Commonwealth Medical College and NEPA HIE member. "Physicians will benefit through improved privacy, security and efficiency of improved access to point-of-care information. Payers will benefit through better communication with physicians, and patients will receive a better experience through care delivered more effectively and with less redundant testing and errors."

NEPA HIE promotes value-based care delivery to Northeastern Pennsylvania, serving the interests of providers, patients and payers across the region. It chose Covisint because it wanted to drive quick adoption of healthcare technology that would help member physicians deliver better care more efficiently and effectively. NEPA HIE also chose Covisint's industry hardened platform-as-a-service, Covisint ExchangeLink for Healthcare, because it wanted to reduce the complexity of technology adoption and minimize workflow disruption while also allowing for future growth across the exchange.

"Healthcare's new reality demands and rewards better care coordination that bridges the entire delivery ecosystem - from physicians, to payers, to patients and others," said Brett Furst, Vice President of Healthcare for Covisint. "Covisint's secure cloud platform - based on technology that has been proven successful for nearly a decade - delivers the right care information to the right person at the right time."

Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Information Exchange
NEPA HIE brings together health plans, providers, hospitals, the medical college, consumers, public agencies, researchers, policy leaders, and others around a common vision: the use of information technology to make health care safer and more efficient throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Northeastern Pennsylvania region has a long standing interest in increasing the quality of healthcare in the region. A positive impact can be made to quality by creating the ability to bring comprehensive health information regarding a patient to the point of care. The concept utilizes an incremental approach which delivers value-adding components at defined milestones which in turn contribute toward the over-arching goal of a more comprehensive NEPA Health Information Exchange.
