Continua Health Alliance Commends the Launch of Wireless Health Platform by Qualcomm Life

BEAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Continua Health Alliance, an international not-for-profit organization of healthcare and technology companies dedicated to establishing guidelines for combining and applying existing standards to create interoperable personal connected health products and services, commends Qualcomm Life Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, on the creation of its new 2net™ Platform, introduced to potential customers this week at the mHealth Summit in Washington, D.C.

The cloud-based 2net Platform removes the complexity of wireless technology and managing and storing medical device data, making it easy for companies to wirelessly connect their medical devices. The 2net Hub, a plug-and-play connectivity gateway onto the 2net Platform’s data center, was developed in accordance with Continua Certification™ Guidelines and has successfully completed certification testing.

“The 2net Platform is designed to be universally interoperable with a variety of integrated medical devices and applications,” said Chuck Parker, Executive Director, Continua Health Alliance. “This platform will help companies get to market faster and will decrease deployment integration costs and achieve the interoperable vision of Continua.”

Qualcomm Life’s 2net ecosystem will facilitate interoperability of systems from:

  • Medical device manufacturers that have wireless cellular technology embedded, or medical devices that need to be wirelessly enabled through a connection with an external device (i.e. the 2net Hub).
  • Healthcare services providers such as disease management companies that kit together multiple medical devices to help patients and caregivers better manage care.
  • Healthcare payors, pharmaceutical or informatics companies that want to leverage biometric data and informatics to enrich their more static, claims-based or manually entered data.

“A lack of interoperability has been the key barrier to enabling ubiquitous connected health and wellness devices. Interoperability among devices and applications is critical to driving down data collection and management costs among payors, providers and patients and significantly streamlining and simplifying the development process for technology companies,” said Chris Wasden, Board Member, Continua Health Alliance, Global Healthcare Innovation Leader, PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
