Career Quest Learning Centers Announces New Health Information Technology Program to Meet Health Care Employer Needs

Lansing, MI (PRWEB) January 10, 2012

Career Quest Learning Centers (http://www.cqlc.edu) announced today that it is introducing a new Health Information Technology program to meet employer demands for new workers to handle federally mandated electronic health records (EHR). The Federal mandate streamlining patient records is also creating new jobs; the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 35,000 jobs nationwide will be created for employees who will work with and manage confidential patient health records.

Enrollment for the Health Information Technology program is now open with classes starting February 1 at Career Quest campuses in Lansing, Jackson and Kalamazoo, Michigan. Students who enroll in the program will finish in less than a year. Classes are offered both nights and during the day to accommodate the needs of working adults. More information is at http://www.cqlc.edu.

The Health Information Technology program at Career Quest is a 900 hour, or 47-semester credits, program. The program was designed to prepare students to enter a career with the skills employers are looking for. Students in the Health Information Technology program will become skilled in foundation computer skills, will understand and be fluent in using medical terminology and will gain a thorough understanding of today's modern health care environment including regulations and payer systems. Graduates of the program will be prepared to work with electronic medical records in hospitals, clinics, medical labs, or in any health care setting where patients are seen.

Training for the new program is delivered in a combination of lab, lecture and work-based environments and is provided by instructors with health care career experience. All students completing the Health Information Technology program will complete a work externship giving them a real-life health care work experience. The curriculum for the Health Information Technology program, like other Career Quest programs, was developed with the assistance of an employer advisory board to ensure the value and accuracy of course content as matched to current workplace needs.

To enroll in the course, students must have a high school diploma or GED. Additional information about costs for the program and job outlook and salary information can be found at http://www.cqlc.edu/healthit.cfm.

Cindy Whittum, director of career services at Career Quest Learning Centers in Lansing, said, "Health Information Technology is one of the fastest growing programs in the field of health care right now.
