Busy year ahead for hospital CIOs

Hospital CIOs will have their work cut out for them in 2007. Healthcare IT News notes that a number of health systems will be tackling major projects, including rolling out physician order entry forms, boosting wireless capacity, and installing clinical applications as well as new servers. "The variety and size of the healthcare IT projects reflect industry forecasts for market growth. Recent analysis…pegs the market at about $549 million in 2005. Analysts estimate the compound annual growth rate at 12.5 percent through 2012." In all this, CIOs report that their biggest obstacle will be to achieve interoperability and standardization between hospitals while at the same time meeting aggressive deadlines for the implementations.
