The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reportedly will announce a new timeline for Stages 2 and 3 of the Meaningful Use program at 4:30 p.m. ET today.

Federal officials repeatedly have said that changes to Stage 2 are unlikely. Jodi Daniel, director of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT's Office of Policy Planning, said that the administration is "focused on making Stage 2 work," at a town-hall style session at the American Medical Informatics Association Annual Symposium in Washington, D.C., last month.

Former National Coordinator for Health IT Farzad Mostashari, speaking to hospital CIOs at the CHIME annual CIO forum last month, also told executives that they shouldn't count on a delay of Meaningful Use Stage 2.
