Symposium to Address DIRECT’s Potential to Connect Healthcare Nationally

announced today that it is sponsoring a symposium called “The DIRECT Revolution: Why Healthcare Is Going DIRECT and How Not to Get Left Behind.” The workshop will discuss the DIRECT communication innovation in healthcare, which is the first step toward creating a health information exchange (HIE) environment. Through DIRECT messaging technology, providers are able to connect with each other and with patients via secure email communication.
“DIRECT is just in its infancy, just like email was in 1991-1992,” said Kelly Lewis, president and chief executive officer of AlliedHIE. “And we all remember how fast and furiously email grew, with all of the bells and whistles added along the way. This workshop is a great opportunity to educate healthcare people in the Harrisburg area about this tremendous opportunity to drive connectivity and improve quality while lowering costs. DIRECT provides a simple, secure and standards-based method to encourage electronic exchange of health information among healthcare providers, particularly those providers that do not have the resources or technical capacity to engage in more comprehensive health information exchange.”
