CapSite 3rd Annual U.S. Ambulatory EHR & PM Study

Burlington, VT -- CapSiteTM announces the release of the 2011 U.S. Ambulatory Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) Study.  The study is the most recent in a series of CapSite strategic industry reports focused on the Ambulatory EHR & PM market.  The study represents unique Voice of Customer (VOC) insight from more than 1,300 physician groups on the market opportunity, market share, vendor mind share and EHR adoption across the U.S.

The objective of the study was to assess how the HITECH Act focuses on stimulating adoption and achieving Meaningful Use of EHR's is impacting the market for Ambulatory EHR and PM solutions.

"This study represents our third in-depth assessment of this marketplace, and we see very clear progress on the adoption of Ambulatory EHR's across all segments of the market.   The market has continued to accelerate and is on pace to nearly double the volume of purchasing activity we measured in 2010.  Despite significant EHR purchasing activity over the past two years, our findings from this most recent study does not show the market slowing down yet.  Our model is projecting a market opportunity in excess of $3 billion for Ambulatory EHR and Practice Management solutions through 2013." says CapSite Sr. VP and GM, Gino Johnson.

Highlights from the study:

  • 63% of physician groups indicated they would replace their current PM for an integrated PM/EHR
    • This percentage has increased steadily over the past three years from 46%
  • 38% of physician groups indicated that they plan to upgrade or replace their current PM
  • Making their physician practice more efficient is by far the top reason free-standing physician groups are purchasing EHR solutions
    • This finding was in contrast to the hospital-owned physician market where we found quality and efficiency were equally important

Vendor Market Penetration / Share and Vendor Mind Share coverage includes:

ADP / AdvancedMD, Allscripts, Amazing Charts, Aprima, athenahealth, Cerner, CPSI, eClinicalWorks, e-MDs, Epic, GE, Greenway Medical, Healthland, HMS, McKesson, MED3000, Meditech / LSS, MicroMD, NextGen, Noteworthy, Practice Fusion, PRAXIS, Sage, Siemens, SOAPware, SpringCharts.
