Ascension CEO Anthony Tersigni to retire later this year

Anthony Tersigni, Ed.D., CEO of St. Louis-based Catholic healthcare giant Ascension, will retire at the end of the year, officials announced on Thursday.

Tersigni has led the health system for more than 15 years. Following his departure from the post, Tersigni will continue to serve as a member of the executive committee of Ascension's healthcare investment fund. 

The board has begun a formal process to select Tersigni's successor.

Tersigni became CEO of Ascension Health in 2004 after having served as chief operating officer since 2001. When Ascension was formed in 2012 as a parent organization of Ascension Health and its other subsidiaries, Tersigni became its first CEO.
