ZyXEL Forms Partnership with MyGlucoHealth to Improve Real-Time Remote Digital Health Monitoring for Diabetes Management

ZyXEL Communications, the world's leading broadband access solutions provider, today announced a strategic partnership with MyGlucoHealth, an integrated telehealth solution for improving the management of diabetes. Together, ZyXEL and MyGlucoHealth will offer a joint communication solution to simplify the uploading of data and improve remote monitoring for people with diabetes. ZyXEL's Smart Home Gateway (SHG) mobile wireless router is being integrated with the MyGlucoHealth Bluetooth-enabled blood glucose meter to seamlessly connect patients with a real-time online data collection network to upload and manage blood tests.

ZyXEL SHG collects patient test results from the MyGlucoHealth wireless meter via Bluetooth, and immediately transmits the data to the secure MyGlucoHealth Portal. Data can be transmitted anywhere a 3G/4G signal is available. At the same time, MyGlucoHealth provides feedback and resources to keep the patient engaged and motivated to better manage their diabetes and improve their lifestyle. The joint solution improves the accuracy and frequency of monitoring blood glucose levels, while reducing the need for doctor visits. In addition, data on the MyGlucoHealth Portal can be directly transferred into a personal health record (PHR) or electronic medical record (EMR) for evaluation and review by the patient, caregivers or clinicians. ZyXEL's SHG offers significant benefits to the growing elderly population, patients who live far away from healthcare providers and/or their families and people who face transportation limitations.

The SHG provides robust, always-on Internet connectivity with support for both fixed (ADSL/Cable) and mobile broadband (3G/4G) for remote locations. It also features fail-over protection and battery back-up to ensure 24/7 access. Each SHG can be programmed to connect up to five MyGlucoHealth Wireless meters, making it useful for access at clinics, nursing homes, health clubs and public health centers. ZyXEL's Gateway is an ideal platform for healthcare service providers, as the company is able to create custom software modules to connect to medical sensors that are USB, Bluetooth or Zigbee-compliant, as well as modules for backend portals. By supporting both custom development ends, ZyXEL enables organizations to send real-time data from health monitoring devices to remote healthcare providers and patients.

"ZyXEL engineered the Smart Home Gateway to give patients the ability to upload data to the MyGlucoHealth Portal without the need for a mobile phone or Internet-connected computer," said Richard Strobridge, CEO of Entra Health, maker of MyGlucoHealth. "We see it as a one-button solution that simplifies and automates the upload process for the elderly or infirmed. ZyXEL has been a responsive partner bringing its combined expertise in development and customization to the successful integration of this device."

"By developing this solution and partnering with strategic mHealth innovators like Entra Health, we are working to improve the quality of remote patient care and monitoring," said Dana Patrick, director of North American channels for ZyXEL. "Built on this vision, the Smart Home Gateway provides the flexibility and customization needed to address a wide-variety of medical and smart home sensors, and we are excited to be working with MyGlucoHealth to bring added value to patients."

Among the world's top three home gateway manufacturers, ZyXEL has years of experience developing and customizing wireless home routers that can be easily deployed and remotely managed. In the healthcare service market, ZyXEL's mobile wireless routers improve data flow, ensure patient safety and enable more accurate clinical trials.
A member of the Continua Health Alliance, ZyXEL will also be with Continua at its CES booth #2820. Continua Health Alliance is a non-profit, open industry organization of healthcare and technology companies joining together in collaboration to improve the quality of personal connected healthcare. At the event, ZyXEL will highlight its work on interoperable home health devices. If you'd like to schedule a meeting at CES, please contact Brittney Wolff at 619-677-2700 or [email protected].
