WellPoint Named One of Computerworld's 2011 Best Places to Work in Information Technology

INDIANAPOLIS, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP) announced today that it has once again been selected by IDG's Computerworld magazine as one of the top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals. WellPoint ranked 46 among the top 100 companies, a nine-place increase over its 2010 ranking, and a 20-place increase since 2009.

This honor recognizes the top 100 organizations that challenge their IT staff while providing great benefits and compensation. WellPoint will be included in coverage in Computerworld along with results from the 18th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey.

"It's an honor once again to be recognized as a Best Place to Work in IT by Computerworld," said Andrew Lang, WellPoint's chief information officer. "Our IT team is responsible for helping all of our customers navigate the health care system. This is a critical responsibility, and one we take very seriously. Our IT professionals are dedicated to supporting each of our customers, and this recognition is a well-deserved reflection of their dedication and commitment."

"To be among the Best Places to Work in IT, it's not enough to seek out and hire the most talented IT professionals, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Smart IT people realize that they need to get up to speed on their employer's revenue opportunities. The organizations that made this year's Best Places to Work list are creating a work environment that both trains and encourages IT personnel to pursue business-driven priorities."

Since 1994, Computerworld's annual "Best Places to Work in IT" feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention.
