Hayes Management Consulting, a leading healthcare consulting firm, announced that the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNM) purchased its MDaudit Professional billing compliance software. and its counterpart for acute care facilities, , are used by healthcare organizations to increase audit production, streamline and standardize the billing compliance process and assess their exposure to risk. More than half of the “honor roll” organizations in ’s Top Hospitals List are MDaudit clients.

“As more scrutiny is focused on healthcare coding and documentation, we have seen a growing demand for MDaudit,” says George Andrew, Director, Software Solutions, at Hayes. “MDaudit will allow UNM to meet their auditing goals, and give them the opportunity to expand the scope of their auditing program by freeing up auditor’s time.”

The MDaudit products are designed to provide healthcare organizations with tools to analyze and audit their billing data to ensure that claims accurately represent the care that providers are delivering. Some of the built-in features allow auditors to target areas that are of special concern, such as evaluation and management (E&M) billing.

MDaudit’s E&M Bell Curve reporting module helps auditors identify providers whose billing patterns are significantly different from those of their peers. Auditors review samples of claims from those providers whose billing patterns demonstrate higher levels of E&M codes to determine if the billings are justifiable, or if additional education is needed.

Other features include automated provider audit scheduling and management reports. MDaudit has doubled audit productivity for many clients so that more time can be spent assessing risk and educating providers.

“We look forward to quickly assessing our risk and focusing on eliminating it,” says Stuart Freedman, Chief Compliance Officer at the University of New Mexico. “MDaudit shows us the root cause of errors, and will not only make our work more effective, but also that of our colleagues in billing who are fixing the same problems again and again in the edit and denial queues.”
