Thought Leaders to Discuss the State of Health at Colorado Health Symposium

Annual event draws nationally recognized experts to Keystone Resort, July 27-29

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Some of the nation’s leading innovators will discuss topics ranging from the impact of health care on the economy to health care reform at the 2011 Colorado Health Symposium. Now in its 31st year, the annual event is recognized as one of the top health policy conferences in the nation. This year’s Symposium will be held July 27-29 at the Keystone Resort & Conference Center in Dillon, Colo.

Under the theme, “State of Health: Seizing Opportunities, Achieving Results,” the 2011 Symposium will explore the most pressing issues in health and health care in the context of the landmark Affordable Care Act. More than 40 experts will guide discussions, debate ideas and share lessons learned from navigating the cross currents of health care in Colorado and nationwide.

“Eighteen months after the Affordable Care Act was approved, we think it’s a great time to look at what’s working and what’s not working in health reform and health care services in the country,” says Anne Warhover, president and CEO of the Colorado Health Foundation which hosts the annual event. “To get an accurate pulse on the state of health, we need a broad range of perspectives from health providers to business leaders. The Colorado Health Symposium provides a rare forum for creative thinking, education and bipartisan discussions that could ultimately act as catalysts for meaningful change.”

For the first day of the Symposium, the Foundation has assembled a strong group of health providers to discuss how reform is impacting the delivery of services. Day Two will focus on the “view from the street,” exploring how communities across the country are reinventing themselves in the image of health. Finally, Day Three will explore how health and health care reform are impacting businesses and their bottom lines.

With more than 450 people registered, the Symposium is sold out, but space is available for credentialed media. For those who cannot attend, the Foundation offers a number of social media opportunities to allow anyone to follow the dialogue, including:

  • Daily blogs and email updates
  • Plenary presentations and an evening debate streamed live on Ustream.tv
  • Symposium University 2011 -- a unique chance for Colorado colleges and universities to view a live video stream -- without leaving the classroom -- of all plenary and keynote speakers
  • Facebook fans and Twitter followers (#11CHS) can track real-time commentary

Presenters will represent a variety of perspectives. Representatives from a broad range of organizations, including The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Brookings Institution, Revolution Foods, The Galen Institute, and Johns Hopkins Medicine Center for Health Policy and Healthcare Transformation are among the speakers participating in the event. Check out the Foundation’s website for an up-to-date speakers list and preliminary agenda.

The event will include a lively evening debate on health care reform on July 27. On July 28, the Foundation will present its 2011 John Iglehart Award. The award is given annually to a Coloradan whose wisdom, commitment and leadership in health policy have made a significant contribution to the Foundation’s vision to make Colorado the healthiest state in the nation.
