TeleTracking Announces Real-Time Locating System (RTLS) Contract with Geisinger Health

TeleTracking RTLS to enable better resource management in two Geisinger hospitals

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TeleTracking today announced it will deploy its Real-Time Locating System (RTLS) technology to track the location, status and process flow of mobile medical equipment at  Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa., and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

The deployment is a significant foundational step for the fast growing six-hospital, integrated health system, which serves a population of 2.6 million in 44 Pennsylvania counties.

Geisinger Health System has also deployed TeleTracking's Bed Management Suite™ system and plans to deploy the TransportTracking™ application.  These TeleTracking applications provide operational improvement in the bed turnover process and hospital patient transport functions, as well as patient throughput by providing current census, pending discharges, new admissions, dirty beds and future bed availability.

For the past several years, Geisinger Health System has focused on re-engineering the system's equipment flow processes to eliminate non-value activity and increase the time nurses can devote to patient care. Geisinger has created a blueprint for centralizing and transforming the supply chain process into an enterprise-wide, patient-centered logistics system that will improve resource and operational management in its complex healthcare organization. RTLS asset management is a central component of that effort.

According to Geisinger's Kevin Capatch, director of supply chain technology and process engineering, "The expanding role of RTLS in operational improvement across multiple departments and campuses is vital."

"RTLS is crucial to helping us resolve the 'Hunting, Hoarding and Hiding' of mobile medical devices– which annually results in lost capital."

RTLS asset management enhances Geisinger's operational improvement initiatives by reducing equipment delays, eliminating time searching for missing devices, and locating underutilized equipment that cannot be found on a daily basis. The RTLS asset management implementation promises a significant return on investment, and sets the backbone for future patient tracking and staff locating initiatives integrated with these existing applications.
