Stratos Product Development Welcomes Back John Havard as Vice President of Engineering

SEATTLE, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Stratos Product Development is pleased to announce the appointment of John Havard as the company's new vice president of engineering. Havard brings more than 21 years experience to the Stratos team of product development specialists.

Stratos' staff is internationally recognized as some of the best talent in complex technology product design and development. Despite current economic trends, the company is experiencing a period of extraordinary growth in the technology and healthcare sectors.

"John is an incredible leader and one of the most talented engineers I have ever known," says Sean MacLeod, president of Stratos Product Development. "He has a strong reputation for delivering the highest quality design solutions on time and under budget. John's leadership will help us continue to attract and develop the best and brightest talent as we grow, so we can continue to deliver the value our clients expect to excel in their respective industries."

Havard rejoins Stratos after co-founding EnVision Instruments in 2003. At EnVision, he led the development of two wireless optical instruments for the biotech/pharmaceutical industry. The first product to market was a laser-based near-IR cell density monitor. This was followed by prototype-stage development of an in-line UV spectroscopy instrument for purification process monitoring. Both products used a common architecture that allowed the customer to choose between a Bluetooth-based Web browser interface or Foundation-Fieldbus interface. Havard filled the roles of director of engineering, product architect and lead designer at the start-up company. He also supervised the company's contract manufacturing and production testing. EnVision was acquired by Finesse Solutions in 2005, and Havard most recently served as the new company's chief engineer.

During his previous 10 years at Stratos, Havard was a senior member of the electrical engineering group. He worked for clients ranging from large corporations to start-ups. Examples of his contributions include digital electronics/computer design for Apple's Powerbook series, motion control design on a medical device for Therus Corporation, and high-volume/low-power hardware design and software architecture on an internet-based fitness device for Sportbrain. Earlier in his career, he held electrical engineering positions at Applied Microsystems and Loral Electronic Systems.

Havard is named as co-inventor on three U.S. patents and has another pending. He earned his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees from Dartmouth College.
