STANFORD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Stanford Hospital & Clinics (SHC) announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed Amir Dan Rubin as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 3, 2011. Currently Chief Operating Officer at the UCLA Health System in Los Angeles, California, Rubin will succeed Martha Marsh, who retired from Stanford Hospital as CEO in September 2010 after serving for eight years.

Rubin joined UCLA in 2005, having previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Stony Brook University Hospital. He began his career in healthcare consulting and was based in the San Francisco Bay Area for several years.
In his role at the 832-bed UCLA Health System, Rubin has been responsible for the operations of the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA, the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopedic Hospital, and an array of outpatient centers across the west side of Los Angeles, overseeing an operating budget of $1.6 billion and over 8,000 employees. He often arrives at 6:00 a.m. to visit patient care areas.

Rubin is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and received a Master of Health Services Administration and Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. He grew up in the Los Angeles area and is married with two children, ages eight and ten.

Stanford Hospital is designing a new $2.0 billion inpatient facility that will be built adjacent to the existing hospital, with construction anticipated to begin following the projected completion of the City of Palo Alto approval process in 2011.
