SPOTLIGHT: San Diego project creates embryo bank

A new effort based in San Diego is collecting leftover embryos from area in vitro fertilization clinics with the goal of sending them to stem cell researchers around the world. The project, which will be known as the Stem Cell Resource, is believed to be the first public embryo bank in the US. The Stem Cell Resource is backed by researchers at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research and a local in vitro fertilization specialist. Organizers say they have already been contacted by researchers in Israel and Harvard. The location of the facility is being kept secret for security reasons. Article
