SPOTLIGHT: Pilot tests wireless ER monitor

Brigham and Women's Hospital and MIT are conducting a trial that will equip emergency room patients with high tech waistpacks capable of monitoring their condition. Sensors will monitor patient heart rates and blood oxygen levels and transmit the data wirelessly via a personal digital assistant (PDA). In a twist, the project also uses ultrasound technology to track the location of patients as they move throughout the emergency department. Funding comes from the National Institutes of Health, which contributed a grant of $3.1 million for the project. Article
