SPOTLIGHT: Patients ignore doctors orders

More evidence that patients don't always listen. A new Harris Interactive/Wall Street Journal poll finds that more than half of Americans have ignored a doctor's prescription, decided not to have an ordered test, or skipped a surgery. The reason? Many are concerned that their doctors are being "overly aggressive." Suspicions of physician motivations also appear to be growing. Fifty-three percent said they think doctors are practicing defensive medicine. Forty-three percent think doctors are motivated by a desire to make money. Story (sub. req.)
